Women Helping All People's "Exploratory Fun in the Sun" Environmental Leadership Summer Day Camp is an on-the-job environmental leadership training program for middle school to college youth from Marin City and other communities in Marin County. Interns acquire knowledge about the various Marin County eco-systems and the species they support, their inter-dependence and their need for survival through a fun and unique outdoor experience. Interns engage in stimulating environmental workshops as well as an exciting combination of activities about leadership development and scientific inquiry into environmental and societal problems and solutions.
WHAP’s Environmental Leadership Internship Program imparts each participant with an experience in leadership that will prepare them to be catalysts for environmental protection and preservation. Field trips include China Camp, Paradise Park, Muir Woods National Monument, Mount Tamalpais State Recreational Area, Point Reyes National Seashores Heart’s Desire Beach, Stinson Beach, Rodeo Beach, Samuel P. Taylor State Park and the various trails of the Marin Headlands. These field trips involve hiking, aquatic activities, games, arts and crafts, and habitat explorations. At the end of the day, interns have an opportunity for daily reflections in their journals. In the past, the program included a nature day camp in the afternoons for young children. The summer of 2022 marks the 26th year that WHAP has offered an exciting and fun Environmental Leadership Program to Marin County youth.
